African Women in Europe historical Empowerment Conference in Germany

The African Women in Europe (AWE) Conference is one of the projects run by the main organisation African Women in Europe (AWE) Network which was founded in 2008 by Joy Zenz and Co-Founder Wambui Njau, and has over the years grown to a membership of over 1000+ African Women and a global reach. The women support, encourage and inspire each other while investing both in Europe and in Africa in support of African economic development.

AWE has support from mainstream organizations and key individuals from across the spectrum who believe in the importance of African women’s engagement with African economic development.

AWE`s main event  is the annual meetings held in the main European cities like  Rome, Madrid, Paris, Berlin and  London.  Over 400 women all over Europe  attended the event held in Geneva for a Conference and AWE award ceremony. These meetings have now grown and culminate in their  flagship event, the high-profile African Women in Europe Conference and for which there has  overwhelming support.

Objectives and Aims:

To empower African women,  support upcoming and existing entrepreneurs,  positively reflect the image of an African woman in Europe,  offer an informative and easy to manage networking platform, connect and form sustainable partnership among members ,  offer training, conferences and workshop online and off-line.

The last event was a conference and glamorous award ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland on 20 June 2015. The theme of the conference was “Leadership and Honouring Women’s Rights.” For more info about past AWE Award events visit

AWE Conference theme for this year is “LEADERSHIP AND INTERGRATION FOR CHANGE”. The deadline for registration is 15th July 2016 and women and men are invited. There is  also  a youth programme led by under 25 year olds who will be talking about identity crisis for youth in Europe. The conference will have a powerhouse of speakers, entertainers and networking, finishing off with three course dinner and dance.

Women are the cornerstone of society and AWE embodies the African saying “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” Proof of this is AWE  membership and  achievements both public and private.

Join in and be inspired, learn and contribute. AWE Motto is “TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG”!
