Afrikan Goddess Announces Its First Goddess of the Year Award
Recipient as Betty Makoni of Girl Child Network.
I must say that this was one of the most heart wrenching
experiences of my time here at Afrikan Goddess. It was especially heart
wrenching when it came down to the final two because either one of them
definitely deserved to win. However, we could only choose one woman and
your voices were so strong that it could not be ignored. Eventually,
the awards committee made the tough but right decision to go with the
readers/voter’s choice.
Ms. Betty Makoni of the Girl Child Network (GCN) won a landslide
Victory in the final round of voting. Many of you tuned in to view her
video speaking about her childhood and the reason why she is passionate
about GCN. Many of you were touched, and so was I. Ms Makoni’s story of
how she turned a bitter childhood experience into one of personal
triumph and triumph for many girls – some of whom are now wives and
mothers, businesswomen and more – who are now passing on the torch is
one to be emulated and celebrated. The saying goes that it only takes
one person to make a difference, and Ms. Betty Makoni has definitely
made a difference. It was evident in the number of emails I received
hailing her for her passion and generosity. It was in the number of
comments to our blog posts, and in the number of voters who showed up
from all corners of the world to cast their votes. I can tell you one
thing: Ms. Makoni is greatly appreciated and loved.
Afrikan Goddess will honor Ms. Betty Makoni in a ceremony in
Washington, DC, for her contributions to making the lives of others
better. Visit the awards website at www. afrikangoddessawards.com for
details on event registration and ticket information as they become
available. It will definitely be a night of glamour, inspiration and
entertainment. Save the date – June 9, 2012!!!
