Girls Empowerment Clubs in Ghana -Mini Durbar in Honor of Betty Makoni -10 May 2011

Betty Makoni will be honoured here in Mini Durbar by over 500 girls when she comes to officiate at a girls club formed after she trained one of the Girl Child Advocate Aku Xornam Kevi in Sierra Leone in June 2010

`The girls are busy with their preparations and they cant wait to meet you. Everyone is excited,` said Aku who set up the Girls Empowerment Clubs in Ghana after her training supported by FORWARD UK

`I am happy to report that many girls are showing confidence and many are working towards reaching their careers. Also we have a team of committed volunteer coordinators supporting girls in clubs. We told them that it is purely voluntary and also to be aware that they give guidance to the girls and we should see more and more girls leading`, said Aku.

Girls in Ghana started immediately after Aku was sponsored by FORWARD UK to attend a Girls Empowerment workshop in Tanzania organised by FORWARD UK an organisation that works closely with Betty Makoni in ensuring girls empowerment clubs are spread over Africa.

Since formation of girls clubs Ghana is beginning to see many changes especially girls aspiring to finish their schools and get better jobs and lives

Girls are happy to meet Founder of Girl Child Network in a special event they organised to welcome her .Betty will speak at an event to be attended by education authorities and school administration. Hundreds of girls are expected to attend to honour and celebrate Betty Makoni but most importantly to show that girls clubs are spreading like veld fire in Ghana
